Found an Eatons Catalogue circa 1972 in a friends basement the other day. Eatons was Canada’s answer to Sears before Sears won the department store wars and now Sears is Canada’s answer to Sears.
This catalogue brought back a lot of memories. The first advice my booker at Elite gave me when I started modeling was, “study the Sears catalogue, study the poses, and watch what they do.”
Well, I wish my late 90’s Sears catalogue had been filled with the all-star supermodels from the 1972 edition of Eatons. There’s a lot going on here, my friends. From the brunette on the bottom left hand side of the page putting his finger to his mouth, a sexually suggestive move used by the likes of Giselle Bundchen to Dr. Evil but never duplicated by another male model—probably since this shot—to the bad boy in the rainbow pinstriped robe propping his hands behind his head as if inviting the world to take a good long look at his groin, the 1972 Eatons catalogue is a treasure trove of taboo model poses and haircuts never to be seen again.
I also like to note that a fancy robe in 1972 will set you back 12 bucks. That’s the quality we’ve come to expect from Eatons.
NOTE: Eatons went bankrupt in 1999.
