Screen Singapore, the city-states’ first film festival, is here and that means a steady stream of Asian and a sprinkling of Western celebrities will be strutting down the red carpet. It also means a marked lack of sleep for myself and a total lack of anything resembling rest for the poor production people I work with.
All in all interviewing celebs on the red carpet is actually pretty fun. Everyone I’ve spoken to so far has been very friendly, even when yours truly happens to spit on them.
Yes, I spit on a celebrity. But it was an accident.
I was talking to Anya Wu, from The Devil Inside Me, complimenting her on her dress when I managed to eject a dot of foamy spittle onto said dress. She then continued to tell me the dress was from a Taiwanese designer as my saliva sat on her shoulder glaring at me, daring me to dab it away with my finger.
I did nothing. I was too ashamed.
This morning my co-host was doing interviews with the cast of the film and I ended up sitting next to Anya. We spoke a bit, and I found myself wanting to apologize to her for my social miscue. The conversation went like this:
‘Hey, so remember last night when we were talking and I complimented your dress?’ I said trying to sound casual.
‘Yeah.’ She said.
‘I sort of spit on you.’
‘I know. I saw.’
‘Sorry.’
‘It was disgusting.’ She grinned.
And that was that. Thankfully Anya is a really cool, really down to earth sort of girl.
Thanks for not getting me fired, Anya.
